Job Description

This position will have responsibility for managing the processes around legal patient commitments, both temporary and regular. The position will act as a facilitator between the legal system and Bowen Center to ensure patients are accepted, refused, transferred or placed appropriately. The position will also ensure that Bowen Center meets its legal obligations within Indiana law with regard to timely reporting and other such requirements.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Continuously inventory current commitment regulations and procedures
  • Evaluate current procedures against the organization's obligations as identified in the Indiana Administrative Code (IAC).  
  • Use the IAC as a guide to develop current policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the organization is meeting is obligations through monitoring and follow up on current commitments
  • Provide education to the organization and community regarding commitments and the legal obligations for all involved within the procedures.
  • Act as the point person or facilitator for new commitment requests and ensure clinicians and medical providers are consulted when needed 
  • Coordinate the acceptance of a commitment and ensure clinical care is set up and appropriate to the needs of the patient.
  • Work with discharge planning staff on discharge plans and recommend services and resources for the successful transition of a patient from one program to the next. 
  • Ensure that the planned services and access to resources occur during the transition process.
  • Work through and overcome barriers to treatment as they occur.
  • Touch base with the patient regularly to ensure the patient remains stable and doesn't decompensate due to lack of services or services that are not beneficial.
  • Work with the receiving program or service line toward engagement of the patient.
  • Use motivational interviewing to encourage the patient to follow through with services if needed
  • Serve as a consultant to Outpatient providers if the patient has difficulty within OP services
  • Ensure both the mental health needs and physical health needs of the patient are being addressed. 
  • Work with the patient or their provider around any payer application needs to ensure the patient follows through with the application process


Job Requirements

  • Education:  Associates degree, 60 college credits, or HS diploma with 5 years relevant experience required.
  • Experience: Prefer two (2) years in a behavioral health setting.
